Assessments This School Year and Next School Year

Students will take the Future Plans Career assessment to identify their strengths, interests, personality, and work values, then explore suitable careers. Each student will meet with a career coach to discuss results and potential career paths, aiming to develop a career plan.

County Highlights

Adams:

  • Congratulations! The West Union Recreation Restoration Project has been selected as a winner of the 2024 Kubota Hometown Proud $50k grant! Thank you for voting!

Ashtabula:

  • The Ashtabula County Technical & Career Campus hosted summer training programs including a two-week program on the basics of flying to earn a student pilot license. Athens:

  • The OMJ Career Bus was active in the community.

Brown:

  • GRIT provided pizza for two sessions of Steamology for the Brown County educators.
  • Ashlie Webster, Amy Queen and Dan Leffingwell presented at the new year BAC meeting.
  • Ripley Union High School started their student assessments to kick off the school year.

Clermont:

  • GRIT presented with Child Focus at the monthly Clermont Chamber meeting.

Columbiana:

  • East Liverpool HS is a new GRIT partner school assessing and coaching 10th, 11th , and 12th graders.
  • The first East Liverpool Community Meeting will be held September 12.
  • A new pilot program with guaranteed job offers upon graduation is being conducted with East Liverpool High School and the Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition.

Coshocton:

  • Coshocton High School will conduct assessments and coaching after a successful pilot program last year.

Gallia:

  • Gallia County hosted a back-to-school event, bringing together members of the community and all 3 school districts in the county.
  • A new community outreach partner for Gallia and Lawrence Counties will start in September.

Hocking:

  • A student summer internship at the Hocking Hills tourism agency through a collaboration from Logan High School / Hocking Hills Tourism / BB2C / The Move organization.

Jefferson:

  • Edison HS, Toronto HS, and Jefferson County JVS will all be a new GRIT partner school, providing assessments and coaching to 10th, 11th and 12th graders.
  • County Wide Career and Education Fair will be held on 9/11, serving three counties ( Jefferson, Harrison, and Columbiana) with approximately 800 students attending. The GRIT Project will have a table at the event.
  • A Jefferson County Resource Network Community Meeting will be held on 9/13.

Lawrence:

  • The BESTOhio Quarterly Meeting was held at Ohio University Southern in Lawrence County on August 13th, 2024. Lawrence County joined the Manufacturing Coalition. Dr. Bill Dingus and Sarah Redoutey spoke about manufacturing in the county. The feedback sparked a great conversation on supporting more manufacturing career opportunities.   • Future Plans is in the process of hiring a new Community Outreach Partner to cover Lawrence and Gallia Counties. https://www.gritohio.org/category/careers/
  • As we begin outreach to schools this year, we are excited for returning schools to get started and want to welcome Tri-State STEM+M as our newest partner school.
  • A new community outreach partner for Gallia and Lawrence Counties will be starting in September.

Meigs:

  • A summer short term certificate program in conjunction with Rio Grande Meigs Center helped 11 students get an EMT or CDCA certificate!

Morgan:

  • River High School, Monroe Central High School, and Beallsville High School will assess Juniors and Seniors in September.
  • Drivers Ed sign ups are ongoing.
  • A Summer Program participant will start the Future Plans PR internship this Fall!

Muskingum:

  • Future Plans and the GRIT Project will participate in the Junior Achievement (JA) Inspire Program on October 2nd for 9th to 12th-grade students, brought to life by local employers. This initiative helps students explore various careers, job opportunities, and educational pathways while planning their high school coursework.

Noble:

  • Shenandoah High School will assess Sophomores this Fall.
  • Caldwell High School updated student media center and offers students a place where they can work on their college classes virtually.
  • Caldwell High school is now also offering college credit business, education, and social work classes through Washington State College of Ohio.

Pike:

  • 5 Pike County students completed the Shawnee State Bear Tracks Program this summer, including:
    • Phlebotomy
    • Comp Tia A+
    • Child Development Associate Credential
    • Basic Emergency Medical Technician
  • The Quarterly Pike County GRIT meeting on August 12th, was well attended with great discussion.
  • The next Quarterly Pike County GRIT meeting will be held at the Pike County CTC on November 4th.
  • Waverly Schools hosted a successful Back-to-School event on August 19th.

Scioto:

  • Summer Programs
    • 17 students from Scioto County participated in a local GRIT Summer Program
    • 9 of those students have passed their exam or obtained their credential thus far.
  • 5 Scioto County Schools will receive the benefit of working with Career Navigators through Scioto County Community Action. These navigators will work hand in hand with the schools, students, and GRIT’s Community Outreach Partners to help students work through their career path.

Tuscarawas:

  • A new COP started on September 2.
  • The second community meeting for the ECORTW ( East Central Ohio Recovery to Work) will be held on 10/9/24.

Washington:

  • Assessments and coaching began at Belpre High School. Fort Frye High School and the Career Navigator program are anticipated this school year. 

Adult Program Updates

Great things are happening in Jackson County! We’re excited to share some recent progress and updates:

  • Court, Probation, and Jail Projects: We’re pleased to report that significant strides have been made in advancing these important initiatives. Our community’s dedication to improvement continues to drive these efforts forward.
  • Angela, Dani, and Stacy attended the Bridge Day event in July, fostering valuable connections within our region.
  • Restored Citizens Summit: Several team members had the opportunity to attend the Restored Citizens Summit in Columbus, Ohio. This event provided an invaluable platform for exchanging ideas and discussing critical issues with fellow community leaders.

We’re grateful for the ongoing support and commitment of our community members, and we look forward to sharing more updates as we continue to make strides in Jackson County!
