BACKGROUND
Future Plans plays a strategic role in the implementation of the GRIT Project (www.gritohio.org). The GRIT project focuses on helping youth and adults in Appalachia discover their best selves and growing the economic prosperity of the region. We believe that the catalyst for leading a fulfilling life lies in discovering our purpose and direction through learning what we have to offer to the world and finding how we best fit into the world.

To help us live our mission and build our communities, we are looking for individuals with a desire to positively impact the lives of students and jobseekers of all ages and stages of their lives.
JOB GOALS
Further the mission of the GRIT Project locally through supporting youth and adults. Assist school districts in implementing the Future Plans Career Assessment and coaching process, with the objective of every sophomore having defined and documented career goals and next steps. Build relationships with local employers, the Chamber of Commerce and the Ohio Means Jobs office as a means of identifying local workforce needs and supporting adults of any age looking for employment.
DUTIES
SCHOOLS
- Collaborate with high school guidance counselors to implement the FUTURE PLANS career assessment.
- Coordinate career coaching schedules for students within each high school.
- Maintain a data dashboard to monitor the career readiness status of all high school students.
- Participate in the school business advisory council. Take a leadership or key coordination role.
- Collaborate with schools to complement, supplement, deepen, and enhance the district’s college and career education programs
- Participate in the Ohio Department of Education career education continuing education series
- Identify students interested in immediately entering the workforce upon graduation, and assist in attending local job fairs and/or identifying potential employers.
ADULTS & BUSINESS COMMUNITY
- Monitor the employment needs of the county business community.
- Lead county GRIT committee meetings and continue to recruit participants.
- Collaborate with the library and Ohio Means Jobs office to develop and facilitate county workshops related to career exploration and coaching; coordinate logistics, scheduling, and participant communications.
- Serve as program representative on assigned community committees such as drug coalition, recovery and court initiatives
- Attend county Chamber of Commerce meetings as a means of building employer relationships
- Serve as a liaison to the business community and the schools as means of identifying career pathways for students, speakers for the schools and employees for the businesses.
- Identify local success stories for the purpose of developing video testimonials and local press coverage
- Build and maintain relationships with local elected officials (mayors, county commissioners, state representatives, and senators, congressional representatives) to increase the visibility of the role of GRIT in the community.
- Build and maintain relationships with local community colleges and workforce training programs such as apprenticeships
- Maintain positive community relations
REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrate ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse people and formal organizations.
- Ability to build effective relationships and consensus through effective collaboration.
- Demonstrate initiative and ability to think in an interdisciplinary team.
- Must have a reliable automobile, valid driver’s license, and minimum state-required liability auto insurance required.
- Complete and clear Ohio’s Criminal Background.
These qualifications are guidelines. Other combinations of education and experience that could provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Job Type: Full-time (Remote)
Schedule:
- Monday – Friday, including summer months
- Some weekend and/or evening availability
- Position requires travel within the assigned counties)
QUALIFICATIONS
No degree is required, but must have extensive experience and knowledge of working in the community. This experience could be as a community volunteer, school volunteer, civic leader or other community involvement. Must be proficient in using technology such as Microsoft Office or Google Docs. Must live locally in one of the counties in the service area.
LOCATION
This position is a field position based at schools and partner organizations in Perry and Muskingum Counties and some home office time.
